    About Me

I really always wanted to do this job, from when I was a child and my father, Maggiore Sottimano, knew that the thing that I would love to do more in this world was to sit near to him on the old tractor we had in that time, or to taste the juice of the grapes just pressed.

Instead of what someone could think, my father never pushed me to study enology; I decided to do it by myself.

Very important was the influence of some old professors, who literally injected in me the love and the passion of the wine, but the real wine, which comes from the passion and the hard work of the vineyards, with no chemicals and without any approach too "technical".
As very important were my trips to France( as they continue to be still now), where I learned from the very little producers there the importance and the respect of the terroir.

Without mentioning it, the most important influence in my job was and still is my father; he was not only the one who taught me everything I know, but with him I always discussed my point of view, he was the one who tried to correct me during my first years and my impulsive way of thinking, but at the same time he always encouraged me to try what I saw during my "trips". Not to mention, I did it, and then the first "generational fights" begun....But looking back now, we both are very satisfied of how things went, and still go.
I mean, every single bottle of Sottimano is not mine or my father's, but it's the exact result of this, sometimes hard, discussions.

That was a buzz! It was the first time I have had to host a show on my own and I must say that it was great fun, although it is funny to think now, but a few times I thought I might be lost for words. Luckily for me Hannes D... (more...)
